Join us for the untold story of the bricks of Battersea Power Station with Sebastien Ricard, Director of WilkinsonEyre, at Brickworks Sydney Design Studio.
From a stranded ‘gargantuan’ relic on The Thames into a truly mixed-use scheme that makes a new destination in London. Sebastien will outline the design processes and efforts involved to save one of the most remarkable and significant buildings of the 20th century whilst retaining the magic of the pop culture icon.
He will detail the successful opening of the building’s interiors to the public for the first time - giving new life to a much revered but uncared for contaminated building; and how the project has totally transformed the value of that area.
Sebastien has been instrumental in the transformation of various significant architectural projects, most notably the derelict steel factory in Yorkshire, which became the Stirling Prize-winning Magna Science Adventure Centre in 2001.
His role as project director for the new transport interchange and public piazza in Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcased his expertise in working with historic structures. This experience culminated in his leadership role in the major restoration and repurposing of the iconic Grade II* listed Battersea Power Station in London, further establishing him as a leader in placemaking and adaptive reuse architecture.
Current projects include the regeneration of the 1950s constructivist ‘Hall 1’ at Belgrade Fair in Serbia, Minster Court, an ambitious retrofit project that will retain over 60% of the existing structures in the City of London and refurbishment of Caesar Pelli’s iconic 1990s Citi Tower in Canary Wharf, currently recognised as Europe’s largest retrofit project.
We look forward to welcoming you to Sydney Design Studio for a light breakfast. Tea and coffee provided.

A passionate advocate for 20th-century industrial and heritage architecture, Sebastien believes that the key to sustainable towns and cities lies in reuse. He is currently spearheading the regeneration of the 1950s constructivist ‘Hall 1’ at Belgrade Fair in Serbia, converting it into a mixed-use destination that will include three cultural venues, retail spaces, and a landscaped park. In addition, he is overseeing Minster Court, an ambitious retrofit project that will retain over 60% of the existing structures to create a new, world-class workplace with vital public amenities for the City of London. His practice is also managing the refurbishment of Caesar Pelli’s iconic 1990s Citi Tower in Canary Wharf, currently recognised as Europe’s largest retrofit project.
